Sacred Theatre

Course for Transformative & Ritual Theatre

An artistic journey into the depths – and a path of professional development:

Sacred Theatre is a journey into yourself – through body, emotion, and symbol, through play and silence, through personal and collective rituals. It is theatre in its most original form: vibrant, transformative, connected to something greater. Not acting in the traditional sense – but a path of reconnection.

This year-long course is both a journey and a path of further education: a personal, artistic & transformative work that you can also take to the world.

The course takes you to the roots of theatre and combines its original wisdom with contemporary ways of expression. It draws from deep sources: the wisdom of indigenous cultures, the paths of shamanism, the visions of artists such as Jerzy Grotowski and Alejandro Jodorowsky – and from what moves you deep within.

The course consists of three areas.
They have a common origin and complement each other organically:

Ausbildung & Weiterbildung Physical Theatre Köln / Szenische Übung

Ritual Theater -
Expression and Renewal

The focus is not on the stage play, but on inner transformation: from masks, patterns, and old role models to greater clarity, liveliness, and inner connection. We work with contemporary forms of ritual theater, with methods such as psychomagic and poetic actions. This also incorporates the essence of the physical-emotional approach that Samuel has developed over many years.

Journey to the Roots -

Shamanic Practice

This part of our journey takes us to the roots of ritual theatre - shamanic practices:  Guided journeys, ceremonies, and simple rituals open spaces where old wounds can heal and lost parts of yourself can return. These experiences connect us with the subtle levels of existence—with nature, the elements, and the inner worlds from which ritual theater was once born.

Heart of Tao-Qi Gong -
Balance and Integration

A regular Qi Gong practice accompanies the course like a calm river: It strengthens body awareness and energetic balance and helps integrate deeper processes. Qi Gong has its roots in the ritual dances of ancient China, and its soft, meditative movements reflect an important principle of Sacred Theatre: transformation through conscious, embodied presence.

Facilitation & Background

About Samuel Núñez – and the roots of this course

Samuel Núñez grew up within the spiritual traditions of two South American cultures. As a child and teenager, he spent his summers in the forests of southern Chile — in an environment deeply imbued with nature, ancient stories, and living ancestral knowledge. There, he encountered ceremonies, rituals, and the worldview of the Mapuche people. His grandfather introduced him to the cosmology and spirituality of the Andean peoples — his own ancestors. These early experiences left a lasting impression and shaped his path.

Later, he deepened this path in a systematic way: he studied Core Shamanism as taught by Michael Harner, as well as traditional and contemporary forms of shamanic practice with teachers such as Alberto Villoldo, Sandra Ingermann, Marcela Lobos, and Rama Flores. Through his grandfather and several of these teachers, Samuel is a lineage carrier of a living ancestral tradition — one that he is authorized to share through ceremonies and initiations.

At the same time, he emphasizes:

“The shaman is not a priest, not a guru — he is a humble bearer and grateful transmitter of the tradition.”

Samuel’s artistic path has been deeply influenced by Jerzy Grotowski’s Holy Theatre and Eugenio Barba’s anthropological approach to theater — both of which understand theater as a living, spiritual experience. He studied Psicomagia (Psychomagic), a modern form of ritual theater, directly with Alejandro Jodorowsky. His methodology is also informed by his studies in Jungian psychology — especially the concepts of shadow work, archetypes, and synchronicity — as well as by the principles of Metagenealogy, a method he learned from Marianne Costa that brings to light transgenerational dynamics in human experience.

With the Sacred Theatre Yearlong Course, Samuel is sharing — for the first time in this depth — the essence of his work: theater as a path of reconnection and transformation.

Maren Núñez: Organisation, Communication and Qi Gong

Maren Núñez is a licensed alternative medicine practitioner, yoga teacher and therapist, as well as a Qi Gong teacher in training. For six years, she has practiced within the Plum Village tradition of Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh, where she leads practice groups (Sanghas) and enriches them with music. What is especially close to her heart is the connection between artistic expression and spiritual path, mindful and healing communication, as well as a grounded, adaptable practice — open to physical particularities, neurodivergence, and trauma-sensitive spaces.

Maren is the contact person for organizational matters and accompanies the shared journey as the second space holder — with mindfulness and an open ear.

With the Heart of Tao Qi Gong, she brings into the course a practice that acts like a calm anchor. Still little known in Germany, this form of Qi Gong specializes in promoting emotional balance and gently releasing emotional and physical blockages. Regular practice strengthens body awareness and energetic balance — supporting the integration of the transformation processes of Sacred Theatre.

Voices

Participants from ritual theater workshops share...

"These three days were a deep journey into myself. I had truly been longing to take part in your workshop, because I often felt emotionally blocked, as if something inside me wasn’t fully allowed to flow. Through the space you created, and through your gentle and accepting presence, I felt safe to explore. These days helped me see my emotions not as something to fear or control, but as something I can meet, hold, and express. Little by little, I found ways to connect with what’s truly inside me. What you shared with us became a bridge and now I walk across it with more presence, more trust in my feelings, and a deep love for this process of becoming."
